MEDFORD, Ore. — Jackson County saw two fatal crashes on Saturday that claimed the lives of a Talent man and a Medford man, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO).
Just after 9 a.m. on Saturday, dispatch received a report of a vehicle found crashed near the intersection of Adams Road and Beeson Lane. When deputies arrived to investigate, they determined that the driver had "failed to negotiate a curve" at the intersection — leaving the roadway and overturning on an embankment, according to JCSO.
38-year-old driver Jacob Daniel Hayes was found dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle at the time. JCSO said that the road was wet when investigators arrived, but they do not yet know if weather conditions contributed to the crash.
Just before midnight, deputies again responded to a single-vehicle crash, this time in the 3500-block of West Griffin Creek Road. Investigators came to believe that the driver of a 2004 Chevy Silverado had been traveling westbound when it crossed into the oncoming lane, left the roadway and rolled after striking an embankment.
Deputies at the scene noted that the roadway was icy in the area. 33-year-old driver Scott Charles White died at the scene and there were no other occupants in the vehicle. Crews from Medford Fire responded to extricate White from the vehicle.
"In each case, an investigator from the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to investigate the cause and manner of death," JCSO said. "Toxicology analysis, a routine procedure in fatal motor vehicle crashes, will be conducted to determine whether intoxicants contributed to the incidents. Notifications have been made to the next-of-kin in both cases."
In both the cases of Hayes and White, the crashes happened in close proximity to their homes Hayes lived on Adams Road in the Talent area, while White lived on West Griffin Creek Road, south of Jacksonville.
