GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A Washington man was taken into custody on Monday after investigators say he tried to lure a minor into meeting him at a local motel for sex, according to the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety (GPDPS).
The agency said that it began investigating 34-year-old Octavo Briones Virrueta of Vancouver, Washington on Tuesday. Detectives were looking into an adult male that reportedly was luring a juvenile through social media.
"During the investigation, it was determined Octavio Virrueta from Vancouver Washington invited a juvenile to a local motel in Grants Pass for the purpose of having sexual contact," GPDPS said.
Virrueta also exchanged sexual images with the juvenile, the agency said.
Detectives found Virrueta at the motel and arrested him on charges of Online Sexual Corruption of a Child I (B Felony) and Luring a Minor (C Felony). Virrueta was lodged at the Josephine County Jail.
"Virrueta was in the Rogue Valley for business and does not reside in this area," GPDPS said. "If anyone has further information on this case or has had contact with Virrueta, please contact the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety at (541) 450-6260."
