VIRGINIA-- Virginia Governor Ralph Northam is not resigning. He apologized for appearing in a racist photo in 1984, which now he says he's not in.
The photo shows one man in black face and the another in a Ku Klux Klan garb. At first he said he didn't know which one he was. Now he says he's not in either outfit.
He does admit to dressing up like Michael Jackson and wearing face paint for a dance competition though.
Protesters gathered outside Governor Ralph Northam's mansion Saturday morning. They join former Northam allies like the state's Black Caucus, Virginia House and Senate Democrats and the former governor asking him to step down.
Governor Northam says, "I really do believe both of them are wrong, but there's a contrast between the black face and someone standing there in a Ku Klux Klan outfit and me dressed up in a Michael Jackson costume for a dance contest. And again, they're both wrong, but I would hope people would see the contrast."
Many politicians are asking for the governor to resign. One of those people is Vice President Biden. He tweeted this statement: There is no place for racism in America. Governor Northam has lost all moral authority and should resign immediately. Justin Fairfax is the leader Virginia needs now.
