EUGENE, Ore. – The United States Postal Service has been removing some mailboxes in Eugene, a spokesman confirmed to KEZI 9 News on Thursday.
Many in the area have been noticing the change around town.
Ernie Swanson with USPS said they are only removing mailboxes in areas with multiple boxes, and they’re leaving at least one behind.
He said they’ve seen a decline in First Class mail volume. With fewer people sending mail and less mail making its way to the collection boxes, Swanson said they’ve been removing some in both Eugene and Portland that are no longer needed.
At last check, 27 mailboxes have been removed in Eugene and four in Portland. The removal process has not been completed.
