MEDFORD, Ore. – Right now, you can sign up to be a census taker and make extra income just in time for the holidays.
The United States Census Bureau is looking for Southern Oregonians to fill thousands of vacant positions.
The main position they are hiring is a census taker or enumerator. These are seasonal positions that will likely last through July 2020.
“Those would be those people who, in the past, would go door to door to your house and ask ‘How many people are in your house’,” says Hannah Gomez, a recruitment assistant with the U.S. Census Bureau.
The census bureau will send you the 2020 census in the mail for you to complete. If the bureau doesn’t receive the information for your address then they will send a census taker to your door.
“We send our enumerators to specific addresses to talk to and help fill out the census,” says Gomez.
Census takers make $14.50 per hour and receive $0.58 per mile driven if they drive their own cars. The average weekly time commitments around 20 hours and you can set your own schedule.
Applicants must be 18 years old, have a social security number and pass a background check.
