CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. -- Just after 5:30pm Monday, the Illinois Valley Fire District (IVFD) responded to a single story house fire on Schumacher Street in Cave Junction. IVFD said the home was engulfed in flames by the time the first unit arrived on scene. Because the house is located in town near a fire hydrant the engine had an ample supply of water. IVFD said this allowed the crew to quickly knock down the fire. Two cars in the driveway were damaged as well as the house next door. No one was in the house at the time of the fire but the crew said two dogs were found deceased in the house.
Rural Metro Fire and Grants Pass Fire supplied equipment and crews to help with the fire and the cleanup. Rogue River Fire and Applegate Fire moved equipment up to help cover both Rural Metro and Grants Pass areas. Oregon Department of Forestry also responded to help prevent the fire from spreading into the nearby wildland.
AMR Ambulance stood by at the scene in the event of any injuries. IVFD CERT supplied traffic control and filled air bottles. IVFD Rehab unit supported the firefighter with rest, food, and water. Pacific Power disconnected the power to the building in order to protect the firefighters.
