INITIAL REPORT: An investigation is underway after officers found a man and woman dead inside of a room in the Grants Pass Motel 6, according to the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety (GPDPS).

Dispatched received a 911 call from employees at the Motel 6 on NE 7th Street just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The workers said that they had found two people inside one of their rooms — and they believed that both of the occupants were dead.

When officers arrived at the scene, two maintenance workers with the motel had to force open the door in order to let police inside. In the room, the officers found a 31-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, both dead.

Detectives have now launched a death investigation, according to GPDPS.

"The cause of death of both individuals has yet to be determined, however the incident is being investigated as a potential drug overdose," the agency said in a statement.

Investigators are in the process of notifying next of kin, so GPDPS said that the deceased will not be named at this time.
