MEDFORD, Ore.-- Oregon House Bill 2017 is a tax bill that aims to help with funding for transportation. Lawmakers passed it last year. Certain aspects of the bill are already in effect, such as the 4 cent gas hike and vehicle registration fee increase that goes towards roads.
Starting July 1st, $0.01 for every $100 or $1 for every $1000 you earn will go towards transit systems like the Rogue Valley Transportation District (RVTD). This tax is estimated to bring almost $3 million to the bus system.
“It means that we'll actually be able to increase our service, almost double our service that we're providing today," said RVTD’s General Manager Julie Brown.
She added Rogue Valley natives probably won’t start seeing more services until July 2019.
