ASHLAND, Ore --- Ashland businesses are getting ready for a second round of tourists for the year.
Tourists in Ashland have a lot of questions about what the giant white tent is across from Lithia Park. "It's surprising how many people come by and not realize that this is you know building an ice rink." said Bill Miller the Maintenance Supervisor.
Today Daryl Jones from Yreka was one of the tourists that found out about the rink. "Walking through Lithia Park we found out there is going to be an ice skating rink." said Jones.
If people do know what it is; they still have a lot of questions. "Throughout the day people come by and say when are you opening, we are excited and it's very popular." said Miller.
Tourists and locals are not the only ones excited about the rink. Businesses like Sesame Asian Kitchen are as well. "We've been getting really excited for a robust winter season." said Sara Long. She is one of the managers. She says they've had to bump up staff and even order more food, because of the amount of people that come through the restaurant. "Looking for the hot drink, or looking for the nice warm appetizers." said Long.
The Maintenance Supervisor for the ice rink says it's the atmosphere that draws people to the rink. "Close to downtown. We get a lot of people coming up to have dinner and then they will come up and skate." said Miller.
Like Jones from Yreka. He visits Ashland about two or three times a month. He says the next time he comes up it will be to ice skate at the rink. "We have never been before so we are planning on coming up." said Jones.
The soft opening for the Ashland Ice Rink is Thursday, November 21st. The rink will stay open until the end of February.
