UPDATE: The Jackson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) has released more details about a marijuana-related robbery that started in Ashland yesterday.
The two suspects have been identified as Jelani Johnson and Orlando Rickman—both 27-year-old and from Washington, D.C. Both have been lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of First Degree Robbery.
Dispatch received a call after 5 p.m. on Thursday, with the caller reporting an armed robbery in the 1200-block of North Mountain Avenue in Ashland. The victims reported being robbed at gunpoint by three suspects, who stole marijuana and then fled in two vehicles. No one was hurt in the incident.
Police were able to spot one of the vehicles—a Toyota Highlander—driving north on Interstate 5, and an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper stopped the vehicle at a Chevron station near Exit 33 in Central Point. JCSO deputies and officers from other agencies all responded to the scene as well.
Johnson and Rickman were arrested without evidence—and upon searching the vehicle, detectives found 37 pounds of marijuana and other evidence of the robbery.
Police are still investigating to locate the possible third suspect who was reported to be in a second vehicle. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Detective Jason Penn at (541) 774-6800, reference case #18-9829.
