APPLEGATE, Ore. — The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man suspected of attacking two teens near Applegate Lake last month in an apparent road rage incident.
JCSO deputies took a report on May 28 from an 18-year-old couple who sad that they had been attacked in a road rage incident earlier in the day near Applegate Lake.
The couple told deputies that they had been in a vehicle heading toward the lake around 3 p.m. when they noticed that they had "upset someone" in a vehicle following behind them.
"A white male in the passenger seat of the suspect car began waving his arms out the window at them," JCSO said. "The car followed them for approximately 20 minutes, tailgating them during this whole time."
The 18-year-old driver pulled over, telling deputies that a man in the tailgating car got out from the passenger side and came over. The man, later identified as 22-year-old Mason Maloney, reportedly began repeatedly punching the 18-year-old in the face.
The victim's girlfriend tried to intervene, but was also hit in the face by the suspect. According to JCSO, Maloney's girlfriend also tried to stop the assault.
Eventually the 18-year-old victim managed to hit Maloney with a wrench, JCSO said, causing the suspect and his girlfriend to leave the scene.
Both victims went to the hospital for medical treatment, the Sheriff's Office said.
"Deputies have identified the involved suspects," JCSO continued. "The male has declined multiple opportunities to meet with deputies to be interviewed. Both are now evading further contact and deputies are requesting any information about the location of the suspects or vehicle."
Maloney's vehicle is described as a neon green 2006 Scion 4-door sedan with the license plate number 506CUC. Maloney himself is said to be about 6 foot 5 inches tall, about 240 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Maloney's girlfriend was identified as 19-year-old Ashley Renee Lewis, described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, 160 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes.
JCOS said that Maloney is wanted on two local warrants and faces potential charges of Assault 2, Assault 4, Disorderly Conduct and Harassment. Lewis is being investigated on charges of Reckless Driving and Disorderly Conduct.
Anyone with information regarding the suspects is asked to call JCSO dispatch at 541-776-7206, reference Case #20-10004.
