MEDFORD, Ore. — A statement from the Medford Police Department announced this morning that 29 year-old Matthew James Collier, a local transient, has been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries in downtown Medford.

Police responded to a burglary alarm at the Minute Mart on the corner of E Main St. and Hawthorn St. at about 2:00 am this morning. When officers arrived, they did not find that the convenience store had been burglarized, but they did see observable damage at nearby Dutch Brothers Coffee and Nu-Way Cleaners. After beginning to investigate the damage, police spotted a male fleeing the area, carrying an armload of items. Officers were able to chase down and detain the man, and determined that the items in his hands included property from the nearby businesses.

In addition to Nu-Way Cleaners and Dutch Brothers, police believe that the suspect also burglarized Nest Salon and Opal Tree Skin Care, all in the same area.

Collier is being held at the Jackson County Jail, and has been chrged with four counts of Burglary in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree, and one count of Theft in the 1st Degree.
