MEDFORD, Ore. — Spring break officially begins today.
While it is a fun time for the family to get out of the house, it can be stressful one to plan.
Gas prices can add up quickly. The first fill up in the Rogue Valley is probably going to be the cheapest of the trip.
According to AAA, gas prices in our area are sitting at right around three dollars per gallon. Klamath County is even a little under, at two dollars and 90 cents per gallon.
Once you cross over to Siskiyou County, it gets much more expensive. Siskiyou County sits at around 3 dollars and 40 cents a gallon. That is the state average as well, so don't expect much difference traveling down the state.
In the Rogue Valley, grant funding has allowed more deputies to be on the road. So, there will be extra patrol for DUII. Make sure to have a designated driver if you plan on drinking.
Rideshare is now available for those in Ashland. Police say you should keep a cab companies number saved in your phone. That would be a back-up plan if the rideshares are not available.
Keeping the house safe while you are away can also be of concern.
Police reccomend putting your lights on a motion sensor. If you can't do that, leave a bedroom or living room light on. This will keep the house looking like it is occupied.
Many people will leave the TV on. This can make it sound like people are in the house.
Another good trick is to have a relative pick up the mail and newspaper. This will only make it more difficult for someone to think you are gone.
