KLAMATH FALLS, Ore--- The team of specialists is investigating the old Kingsley Firing Range Annex. They are looking for ammunition that may still be underground.
For the next 6 weeks investigators will walking up and down the field with metal detectors. If something is underground it'll chirp and let them know. Then they have to dig until they find it.
The US Army Corps of Engineers running this investigation tells NewsWatch 12 it's mostly small arms ammunition and rockets that may under ground.
Calley Havens is the Site Manager. She is based in Kansas city, Missouri. Havens says this isn't the first investigation on the site. There have been several. Ammunition was found and that's why this larger investigation is underway. It's a liability to the Corps of Engineers so they want to make sure it's safe. "Once they walk through the entire area then we can roughly say the investigation is complete." says Havens.
We will keep you updated on the investigation. We will tell you what the team finds and when it is complete. NewsWatch 12 hopes to go to the site again when the Site Manager is in town.
