MEDFORD, Ore. -- Smoking rates are now at an all time low as about 14 percent of americans were smokers last year... which is down from about 16 percent the year before.
Teen smoking rates also declined... as smoking among high school students is down to nine percent which is also a new low.
In the early 1960's, 42 percent of adults in the U.S. smoked.
It was also common in places like office buildings, restaurants, and other places.
The decline is linked to an understanding that smoking can cause cancer, heart disease, and other health problems.
The launch and popularity of e-cigarettes has also played a factor... as 3 percent of adults use them.
13 percent of high school students now use e-cigarettes.
