MERLIN, Ore-- Around 3:30 Sunday afternoon, Rural Metro Fire and Merlin firefighters were called to the 400 block of Abegg road were a 1/4 acre wildfire was discovered.
According to firefighters on the scene the fire was burning on a patch of brush and grass in the area.
Firefighters say they were able to contain the flames before it could threaten any nearby structures. Rural Metro also says that it appears that the fire was likely caused by a powerline issue. Pacific Power was called in to conduct an investigation.
NewsWatch 12 did reach out to Pacific Power for comment on the investigation, they say that they are looking into the matter and will try to provide an update shortly.
Despite the wet winter months, Rural Metro Fire say that surface fuels can quickly dry out from a few days of sunny and warm weather and that now is the time for all property owners to prepare for the coming fire season.
This is a developing story and we will continue to look into the cause of this fire.
