CRESCENT CITY, Calif. — A major slide has shut down Highway 101 in Del Norte County south of Crescent City, according to Caltrans.
Traffic crews originally shut down the roadway at Last Chance Grade due to falling rocks on Saturday. Though crews have periodically reopened one lane, continued slide activity over the past several days has largely kept the highway closed down.
As of 7 a.m. on Monday, Caltrans said that Highway 101 remained fully closed at Last Chance Grade.
"There was significant slide activity last night. Crews are removing slide material from the roadway," the agency said. "We estimate one-way traffic control may begin this afternoon assuming no additional slide activity occurs."
