YREKA, Calif -- The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office and the Siskiyou Interagency Marijuana Investigation Team seized more illegal marijuana plants in their ongoing counter-drug raids.
1,766 plants, and 100 pounds of processed marijuana were seized in the Butte Valley area of Siskiyou County on the 28th. The seizure disrupted an illegal drug trafficking operation, as some of the processed marijuana were packaged in three pound bags.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the state and local agencies for taking part in these search warrant operations," Sheriff Jon Lopey said. "These operations are difficult given the limited resources, rugged terrain, and amount of investigative and physical work that must be done to conduct these complex and potentially-hazardous counter-drug missions this time of the year."
This counter-drug operation comes a week after S.I.M.I.T. detectives arrested three people, while serving a search warrant in the Grenada area. Four illicit marijuana gardens, 436 plants, and a stolen gun were seized.
Over the past four months, S.I.M.I.T has seized 32,788 illegal plants. Annual year-to-date values of those plants are about $196.7 to $295.0 million on the black market value on the Eastern United States.
The Sheriff's Office says that these crimes are still under investigation, and they ask that you contact them with any information about illegal operations in your neighborhood.
