YREKA, California -- The Siskiyou Golden Fair is celebrating 160 years of old fashioned, family fun.
The fair still has plenty of classic rides, fried food and games. One thing that is new this year is a free cellphone app, where you can find a map of the fairgrounds and even the fair schedule.
There are also some other new things in store this year. There's a butterfly tent this year and a new Bugology exhibit, where you can even taste a bug.
If you're feeling a little bit less adventurous, there's plenty of classic food to eat at the fair, such as cotton candy and caramel apples.
You can also pop into one of the fair's exhibit halls. There, you can see flowers, photos, veggies and art. About 5,000 people submitted their work to be judged at this year's fair. The Siskiyou Golden Fair has lasted such a long time because they focus on one mission, according to the fair's CEO.
"People come to Yreka because it's still an old fashioned, family fun fair," said Cliff Munson, the CEO of the fair. "We just keep promoting that and it's so important to our own community. Everybody takes ownership. It's just a great place."
