GRANTS PASS, Ore. —

UPDATE: A man believed to have robbed Sears in Grants Pass and then drove over the manager's legs while driving away is now in custody, according to the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety (GPDPS).

On Tuesday, deputies from the Josephine County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) were patrolling the Wolf Creek area when they tried to stop the driver of a vehicle. Instead the driver eluded them, ditching the car at 2792 Lower Wolf Creek Road, GPDPS said.

During a search of the area, officers contacted 29-year-old Michael David Brenden. Brendan had already been implicated in the Sears robbery through tips from the community, and detectives had been looking for him.

Deputies took Brenden into custody, lodging him at the Josephine County Jail. Officers also found the red truck used in the Sears robbery — albeit painted black and blue, hidden out of sight.

"The truck was recovered and returned to the registered owner, who had reported it stolen prior to the robbery at Sears," GPDPS said.

GPDPS said that Brenden had also significantly changed his hair between the robbery and his arrest.

"The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety would like to thank the community for tips that assisted in identifying Brenden, and the Josephine County Sheriff's Office for their assistance," the agency said.

Brenden is being held on charged of second degree robbery, third degree assault, and failure to perform the duties of a driver (hit & run) - personal injury.
