Salvation Army looks for last-minute toy donations before delivery to local families

The Jackson County chapter is still looking for a few specific things to make sure that all 320 families get gifts this holiday season.

MEDFORD, Ore. — Though the annual "Season for Sharing" drive wrapped on Wednesday, the Salvation Army is hoping for some last-minute gift donations to ensure that several hundred families in need receive gifts this holiday season.

On Friday, the Salvation Army will deliver toys, clothes, and food gift cards to more than 320 pre-registered families in Jackson County. About 2,000 kids receive new toys through the program.

Five days of Salvation Army bell ringing remain

With a particularly short holiday season this year, the Salvation Army is still about $54,000 short of reaching their goal through the annual Red Kettle campaign.

"When you donate in a Red Kettle, that money stays in your community to help your neighbors in need,” says Major Jason Koenig, Jackson County coordinator for The Salvation Army.

“We are here for the community and will continue to help our community to the best of our capacity and our means. We can do more with the community’s help, so please throw a couple extra coins or dollars into the next kettle you see. Your spare change can literally change someone’s life when you donate to The Salvation Army,” Koenig continued. “If we don’t raise the money to meet our Red Kettle Goal, we will struggle to provide services to the community that are necessary for so many people. We need the community's help."

Bell ringing will continue at multiple locations throughout Jackson County every day (except Sunday) until 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve. You can find a Red Kettle at the following locations:

  • Bi-Mart - All three locations in Jackson County
  • Walmart - All three locations in Jackson County
  • Sherm’s Food 4 Less
  • Cartwrights
  • Hobby Lobby
  • Thunderbird
  • Fred Meyer - Both locations in Jackson County

  • Albertsons

  • Grocery Outlet - White City

"As The Salvation Army prepares for the distribution, today, Thursday, December 19th is the final push to receive donated toys in time for our distribution," the organization said.

Donated toys can be brought directly to The Salvation Army at 304 Beatty Street, Medford.
