KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Oregon State Police says that a California man died in a crash along Highway 97 just south of Modoc Point on Tuesday evening.
State troopers and emergency crews responded to reports of the two-vehicle crash around 7:30 p.m. An investigation of the scene found that 29-year-old Austin Wills of Sacramento had been driving his Nissan Versa southbound on Hwy 97 when he drifted into the northbound lanes.
75-year-old Robert Hall of Klamath Falls was driving his Peterbilt semi-truck northbound when Wills swerved into his path, Oregon State Police said.
Wills sustained fatal injuries and died in the resulting crash. Hall was not injured.
Police and traffic crews shut down the highway for roughly three hours, then reduced traffic to one lane for another hour during the recovery and investigation.
