RUCH, Ore. – The Applegate community is coming together to make sure the kids in the community are fed.
The Ruch school PTO gave local restaurants some grant money to be able to feed local students. Code 3 Coffee and Indigo Grill have partnered together to provide free meals for pick-up Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
The Ruch Country Store is allowing customers to round up their totals from in-store purchases and donating those funds to the local restaurants so that they can continue to provide meals.
“All three of our businesses are just trying to do our part to help things out as much as we can,” said Rob Underwood, the owner of Code 3 Coffee.
Underwood also says local community members have given cash donations.
Right now, the restaurants are serving about 15 to 20 kids a day, each. They ask that the kids be present with parents when picking-up their meals. To help match the demand, Code 3 Coffee has hired additional employees for the noon hour.
Underwood says as long as there is community support, they will continue to provide meals.
“When you take a small community like us, we kind of get put to the back a little bit so it takes the community to be able to do this,” said Underwood.
