MEDFORD, Ore. —
UPDATE: A statement from Medford Police on Friday afternoon provided slightly more context to the reported armed robbery at Medford Econo Lodge.
According to the update, dispatch received a 911 call from a woman just after 9 a.m. reporting that she'd been robbed by an armed man.
"After the robbery, the victim chased after the suspect who fled in a vehicle," MPD said. "Driving her vehicle, the victim pursued the suspect at high speeds through east Medford."
The chase ended abruptly when the woman crashed at E Main Street and Eastwood Drive. A witness to the chase then tailed the suspect vehicle until it got onto I-5 southbound.
MPD now says that the suspect vehicle was a silver-colored [not dark brown as previously reported] Volkswagen SUV with Oregon plates, 500EWT.
"The suspect vehicle may have visible damage to the rear end," Medford Police said. "The suspect operating this vehicle is potentially armed with a weapon."
The agency did not identify either the victim or suspect and the case remains under investigation by MPD detectives.

INITIAL REPORT: Investigators from the Medford Police Department (MPD) are looking into a reported armed robbery that began at the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites in Medford.
Shortly after 8 a.m. on Friday morning, the agency said, two cars sped out of the Econo Lodge parking lot on S Riverside Avenue. The driver of a white Mercedes appeared to be pursuing the driver of a dark brown 2008 VW Touareg SUV with the license plate number 500 EWT.
Both drivers turned right onto Main Street until they reached Eastwood Drive, where the woman driving the Mercedes lost control and crashed. The woman was uninjured and reportedly has been cooperating with police. MPD said that she was the victim of the armed robbery, and she knows the suspect(s).
Medford Police are still searching for the brown VW Touareg, and have asked that anyone who sees it calls 911 instead of approaching. The person or people in the vehicle are considered armed and dangerous.
The Touareg was last seen driving south on I-5.
Detectives remained on the scene at the Econo Lodge hours later, having put up crime scene tape around an area of the parking lot where debris could be seen scattered about. The investigators also had one motel room blocked off for collection of evidence.
