GRANTS PASS, Ore. — After deploying a SWAT team to a residential area on the south side of Grants Pass on Monday, police arrested a man suspected of murdering someone over the weekend.
According to the Grants Pass Police Department, law enforcement received a report of a disturbance in the 800-block of NE D Street shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday, indicating that a man had been "severely injured." When officers arrived at the scene, they found 49-year-old Cole Osborne suffering from a life-threatening wound.
AMR crews brought Osborne to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injury.
Detectives began looking for leads on the person who had injured Osborne. Grants Pass Police said that 43-year-old Jeremy Garcia was identified as the suspect, and he had fled from the scene to a home near the intersection of Cloverlawn Drive and Swarthout Drive.
On Monday, officers and the Grants Pass Police SWAT team deployed to the area, reportedly taking Garcia into custody without an issue. Roads in the area were shut down temporarily between Ben Aire and Haviland. Garcia was taken to the Josephine County jail on second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon charges.
"The Grants Pass Police Department would like to thank Oregon State Police Detectives and Oregon State Police Forensics, as well as numerous citizens in the community, for their assistance in this investigation," the agency said in a statement.
According to court documents, Garcia is also a fugitive from Idaho, and the other state intends to seek extradition. He has been charged in Idaho with probation violation elude, driving without privileges, resisting, and obstructing.
