MEDFORD, Ore. — Surveillance video from the scenes of two separate burglaries led police to two men and a woman who were found with a stolen car, stolen guns and jewelry, according to the Medford Police Department (MPD).
The first burglary occurred during daylight hours on January 11 on Sunrise Avenue. Investigators gained access to surveillance video from a church in the area, which showed two men leaving the area of the home carrying stolen property before climbing into a mid-'90s Honda Accord — driven by a third person.
MPD said that the thieves took several thousand dollars in jewelry and other personal property from the victim. They also "ransacked the residence" and damaged a door while committing the crime.
The very next day — again, during daylight hours — MPD received a report of another burglary, this time on Hybiscus Street. The victim reported that the thieves had taken off with "numerous firearms, jewelry and other personal property."
Once again, surveillance footage from a neighbor shows two men — looking very much like the men from the first burglary — approaching the home, before a green Honda Accord is seen leaving the area.
Early Monday morning around 3 a.m., a police officer spotted the green Accord parked outside of the Motel 6 off Alba Drive. Upon closer inspection, the officer found that the car had been reported stolen in Washington state. The car quickly led police to a room "associated with the suspects."
Officers arrested 29-year-old Ashley Ontiveros in the room without incident. She was quickly identified as the unseen getaway driver for both burglaries, MPD said. After a short foot chase, officers also arrested 29-year-old James Weber.
"The investigation led to a search of a motel room where numerous firearms and other stolen property from the two burglaries was recovered," MPD said.
The third suspect was identified as 25-year-old Alexander Bowen, who investigators came to believe was staying at a house in the 1100-block of Olympic Avenue.
"After numerous attempts to make contact with occupants inside the residence, a search warrant was obtained and executed at 9:44 a.m.," MPD said. "Five people, to include Bowen were contacted inside the residence. An additional stolen firearm and other stolen items from the burglaries was recovered during the search warrant."
All three suspects were lodged at the Jackson County Jail on a number of charges. MPD said that Weber and Bowen were also fugitives, with arrest warrants from Washington state.
"Officers believe the three suspects had traveled to Medford from Washington in the stolen Honda Accord as part of a drug deal that was to take place," MPD said.
