KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — A Klamath Falls man is in custody following a stand-off with law enforcement after his girlfriend reported that he'd "severely beaten" her, according to the Klamath Falls Police Department (KFPD).
Officers responded in the early morning hours on Tuesday to a house in the 800-block of Mt. Whitney Street after a reported domestic violence assault.
Responders found the 43-year-old victim with severe facial injuries and signs of strangulation, and she was brought to Sky Lakes Medical Center. It was the victim who had called KFPD to report the assault.
Meanwhile, KFPD said that 32-year-old Michael Donnel Wilson — the boyfriend and roommate of the victim — barricaded himself inside the house even as the officers established probable cause for an arrest. KFPD then called in its SWAT team.
"Once deployed, SWAT operators, with the assistance of Klamath Falls Police Department patrol personnel and Oregon State Police Troopers, were able to apprehend Mr. Wilson without incident," the agency said.
Officers lodged Wilson in the Klamath County Jail on charges of Assault II and Strangulation.
"The Klamath Falls Police department extends its gratitude to the neighboring residents in the immediate area of the operation for their cooperation and police assistance. In addition, we urge anyone who is a victim, or knows a victim of domestic violence to please report the matter to their local police department, or seek other assistance to remove themselves or protect themselves from future abuse," KFPD said.
