Residents living on Bridge Street in Grants Pass say they want to the public to be more aware of pedestrian crosswalks and the rules of the road. They say drivers aren't stopping for people in crosswalks and it's creating some dangerous situations.
This is especially important now that school is back in session. Parkside Elementary School is also located off of Bridge Street. Principal Rob Lewis says the school has clearly marked crosswalks and timed flashing lights. Still drivers need to do their part.

"Bridge Street is a very busy street and people are going back and forth to work every day," explained Lewis. "Now that school has started, we have to be more aware, because kids aren't paying attention as they come up to the street or to the sidewalk."
One thing many people don't realize is that every intersection in Oregon is a crosswalk, whether it's marked or not. A driver must stop if any part of a pedestrian is in the street or they could face a fine of 250 dollars or more.
