SALEM,Ore--- On Saturday, the Oregon Health Authority reported its second highest new daily total of coronavirus cases, with 1,847 new cases along with 24 new deaths. This is the second time this week that the OHA has reported 24 new deaths attributed to the virus and is the third time this week that the state has reported 24 or more deaths.
Today the state also set a new record of weekly deaths coming from the virus with 124 deaths this week, shattering the previous record which was 85.
Oregon's total number of deaths also rose today to 1,027 as the total case count for the state also climbed to more than 83,000 cases.
Multiple counties across the state reported 100 or more new cases of the virus including: Lane(135), Marion(193), Washington(312) and Multnomah(400) counties.
The state is also now just 35 cases away from eclipsing the 9,000 mark for new cases in a single week, which would be the first time that the state has done so since the spread of the pandemic in Oregon.
