OREGON -- Today Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley held individual Zoom press conferences to talk about how the COVID-19 relief bill will benefit Oregonians.
Sen. Wyden’s conference included Oregon workers and small business owners and focused on the relief package’s extension of unemployment benefits. It also included the exemption of the first $10,200 in unemployment from income taxes.
“What's important though, as we begin this discussion, is this relief package injects an essential booster shot for public health throughout the state of Oregon. For our small businesses, for our school, for Oregonians who are out of work – there's real relief coming,” Wyden said.
During Sen. Merkley’s conference, county leaders, business owners and community organizations from around the state shared their experience on why the relief package is important to their communities.
Merkley says the relief package is one of the most transformative pieces of legislation since the New Deal.
“It's really all about putting America back on its feet, rebuilding America from the ground up, families and small businesses up rather than from Wall Street down,” Merkley said. “This bill will put checks in American's pockets, shots in their arms, kids back in our classrooms and open signs in the windows of businesses, small businesses across Main Street, across America.”
