EUGENE, Ore. — On Tuesday night, two candidates pulled ahead in their respective party races for Oregon's 4th Congressional District. Congressman Peter DeFazio easily won his party's primary, while Alek Skarlatos did the same in the Republican primary.
The 4th District race has been relatively narrow. Democratic incumbent Rep. Peter DeFazio faced challenger Doyle Elizabeth Canning, while Republicans Nelson Ijih and Alek Skarlatos faced off for their party nomination.
“I’m very honored to have earned the trust of the Republicans of Southwest Oregon,” said Skarlatos in a statement. “I want to thank my great team and we plan on taking this great momentum into the general election.”
Oregon's 4th District covers counties along the southern Oregon coast, in addition to Douglas, Lane, Benton, and Linn counties.
DeFazio and Skarlatos are now sure to face off in November for the 4th District seat.
