WHITE CITY, Ore. — One person is dead following an assault in White City on Thursday morning, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
JCSO said that it received a call for a "serious assault" at 8005 Gladstone Avenue, near Table Rock Elementary School, just after 10 a.m. Deputies arrived to find one person dead at the scene, learning that the suspect had left the home on foot.
8005 Gladstone in January, after the Jackson County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant.
Both Table Rock Elementary School and the more distant White Mountain Middle School went on lockdown as a precaution while deputies responded. School officials confirmed that only staff were in the buildings due to distance learning. The schools were on lockdown for about 90 minutes, JCSO said.
Shortly before noon, deputies found and arrested the suspect in a mobile home park at 2622 Falcon Street, less than a mile from the crime scene.
The Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit (MADIU) responded to the scene on Gladstone, with investigators from multiple agencies assisting the Sheriff's Office.
"As of late Thursday afternoon, the crime scene is being processed and interviews are being conducted," JCSO said. "Identification of the victim and release of details regarding the suspect are pending further investigation."
Neighbors told NewsWatch 12 that the crime took place at a house that deputies raided in January, detaining 15 people.
This is a developing story and will be update with more details as they emerge.
