ROGUE RIVER, Ore. — Multiple agencies have been called in to investigate a deadly officer-involved shooting near Wimer that happened Monday morning, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were dispatched for reports of a domestic assault in the 1500-block of Queens Branch Road near Evans Creek Road just after 11 a.m., the Sheriff's Office said. Before officers arrived at the scene, the suspect reportedly left in a vehicle.
Several minutes after leaving, the suspect returned to the scene. A deputy reported "shots fired" shortly after. The Sheriff's Office says that the deputy was not injured, but the suspect died at the scene.
The Jackson County Major Assault Death Investigation Unit (MADIU) responded to the scene, with Medford Police taking the lead on the investigation into the shooting. They'll be assisted by elements of Oregon State Police, Rogue River Police, the Jackson County District Attorney's Office, and the Sheriff's Office.
The name of the suspect who was killed in the shooting is not being released until next of kin has been notified, the Sheriff's Office said. More information about the shooting is being withheld until the initial investigation is complete.
