GRANTS PASS, Ore. -- A Grants Pass man is in police custody after hitting an officer in the head with a car door during an arrest at Walmart, according to the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety (GPDPS).
Members of the department's "Nuisance Intervention Team" were doing extra patrols at Walmart when they saw that 26-year-old Anthony Foster's car had expired tags.
The officers reportedly told Foster that he was being detained after finding out that Foster was on probation and had misdemeanor revoked driving privileges.
That's when the suspect tried to start his car and the officers fired their tasers., GPDPS said.
The department says that Foster jumped into the passenger seat and opened the door, hitting one of the officers in the forehead — leaving a two-inch wound.
Officers managed to wrest Foster out of the car and place him in custody.
"Officers had to use physical force to overcome his active resistance in an effort to escape," GPDPS. Both the officer and Foster were treated for minor injuries at Three Rivers Medical Center following the incident.
Foster is lodged at the Josephine County Jail.
