GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Oregon State Police is asking for help from the public after multiple were shots fired at vehicles along I-5 between Josephine and Douglas Counties.
"We have had, since the middle of May until last week, five vehicles that were struck by bullets. All on Interstate 5," said Lieutenant Stephanie Bigman with Oregon State Police.
OSP believes the vehicles were shot between mileposts 67 and 100 — roughly from Hugo to Canyonville. However, drivers aren't realizing they've been shot at and therefore aren't reporting the shots when they happen.
"A lot of them are geting to their destinations and finding the bullet hole the next day and then trying to go back and think about what time it happened and where," said Bigman.
No injuries have been reported. The shots have caused internal and external damage to the vehicles.
"We've had a coolant leak, a power steering hose hit on a commercial motor vehicle, a flat tire, a broken window," said Bigman, "I am worried that somebody will get struck by one of these bullets."
OSP says if you were traveling in the area and believe your vehicle has been struck with a bullet please call 911, note the time, location and, if possible, continue out of the area.
If you have information regarding the shootings or if you believe your vehicle has been struck please contact the Oregon State Police Southern Command Center at 1-800-442-2068 or *OSP - Reference OSP Case #SP20-173444.
