CENTRAL POINT, Ore. — A trooper with Oregon State Police found 2.5 pounds of heroin during a traffic stop along I-5 north of Central Point on Saturday, according to the agency.
Just after 3 p.m., a trooper from the Central Point Area Command stopped the driver of a 2010 Toyota Camry for reportedly following too closely on I-5 northbound near milepost 36.
OSP said that the trooper got consent to search the Camry during the traffic stop. During the search, the trooper found 2.5 pounds of heroin "concealed in a natural void of the vehicle."
According to the agency, the driver was identified as 22-year-old Luis Enrique Torres-Sandoval of Las Vegas, Nevada. He was accompanied by 24-year-old Edward Ivan Prieto of North Las Vegas. Both men were lodged at the Jackson County Jail on charges for Unlawful Possession and Delivery of Heroin.
Torres-Sandoval still appears on the Jackson County Jail log, but Prieto does not.
OSP said that troopers were assisted by the Department of Homeland Security Investigations' Medford office.
