MEDFORD, Ore. -- An ODF website will let you look up fire restrictions anywhere in Oregon. The website can be used on a cellphone or a computer.

The mobile website can link to your cellphone's GPS. That way, the website can use your location to tell you the fire restrictions that are in place at your exact location. The website isn't new, but ODF said it is an easy, convenient way for people to keep up with fire restrictions.

"No one wants to intentionally start a fire," said Bobbi Doan, the public affairs officer from ODF's Salem office. "Everyone has a good intention of wanting to be able to prevent. It's just helping to inform folks so that they know what they can do themselves. Whether it's taking the right tools to be able to put the fire out completely or knowing before you go in the first place, so you know if you can burn at all."

The website will only work if you have cellphone signal.

Fire restrictions will automatically pop up if you click on a piece of land controlled by ODF. When you click on land that isn't owned by ODF, you get a different message. The website will not automatically display fire restrictions, but it will direct you to the exact link where you can find fire restrictions in the area.

The website can also be used on the computer. However, the computer website cannot pinpoint your exact location with a GPS.

"It's really about using it however works best for you," Doan said. "For some folks, it's going online and clicking and figuring out what we can and cannot do for a trip coming up. For others, they're out on a hike and they want to check before they make that next step."
