MERLIN, Ore. -- Oregon Department of Forestry and Rural Metro fire crews say they put out a one and a half acre vegetation fire in the woods near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Donaldson Drive Tuesday afternoon.
In a Facebook post, Rural Metro says there were no structures threatened.
Rural Metro says the fire was likely related to an abandoned transient camp, but ODF is investigating the cause of the fire.
Rural Metro says the fire was likely burning for a couple of days, but remained at low-intensity as it moved along the ground in leaf-litter and small pockets of brush.
Due to lack of rain and recent warm weather, Rural Metro says fuels are already deceptively dry for this time of year.
Rural Metro says any use of fire, such as campfires and open burns, must be done with caution.
