UPDATE, 8:23 p.m. -- According to the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest District, crews have responded to 35 reports of fires across Jackson and Josephine Counties, 25 reports of fire in their Medford unit, and 10 in the Grants Pass unit, as a result of lightning storms across the area.
ODF says that the largest fire is the North Fork Anderson Creek Fire located on Anderson Butte outside of Talent. Fire crews estimate that the fire is about 3 acres. The largest on the Grants Pass unit is the Placer Road Fire near Sunny Valley at an estimated acre.
Thankfully, this storm came with a lot of rain and while there have a lot of fires reported on the landscape, ODF says that they are all remaining small and moving slowly due to the moisture on the ground and vegetation.
ODF has told NewsWatch 12 that at this time, there are no structures that are being threatened at any of these incidents, with the majority of the fires located in higher elevations away from homes.
UPDATE, 6:26 pm -- Crews are continuing to investigate multiple smoke plumes throughout Jackson County. One fire near Anderson Butte is reported to be two acres in size, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry. It's a part of two fires in that area and is the largest of the two.
According to the Facebook post by ODF Southwest, the Helitack team was dropped off at the fire and multiple engines are on their way to stop the blaze.
MEDFORD, Ore. -- Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest crews are responding to several smoke investigations that have popped up across Jackson County as lightning strikes continue to hit the area.
According to ODF Southwest's Natalie Weber, fire crews are on their way to two different smoke investigations.
The first one is located east of Lost Creek Lake and according to an ODF helicopter in the area, a fire has started and is about 1/10th of an acre in size. Several engines are near that fire according to Weber. Weber believes that those engines should be able to take care of that fire.
The second smoke investigation has been located at 6300 Adams Road in Talent near Anderson Butte. ODF crews are currently on their way to investigate the scene.
This is a developing story and we will continue to provide updates on the situation as soon as we learn more information.
