PHOENIX, Ore. -- Alta Archaeological Consulting is helping Almeda Fire victims find cremated remains.
Resident Joyce Crockett lost all of her belongings when her storage unit at Valley Stor-All burned down during the Almeda Fire.
"The night of the fire, I was over in McKinleyville, California," Crockett said. "I was watching it on my phone, but I didn't realize my storage unit had burned. I didn't find out until I got back from over there."
Crockett says 40 years of memories were destroyed, including irreplaceable photos of her great, great grandparents.
The storage unit also contained ashes from her husband, father and mother-in-law.
She says the archaeologists from Alta spent several hours Friday morning looking for the ashes, and Crockett was taken aback by what else they found.
"They found a whole bunch of things I didn't think I'd ever recover," Crockett said. "I was very, very pleased. They were the most awesome people you'd ever want to meet."
