ASHLAND, Ore. — Today is opening day for the Siskiyou Rest Area and Welcome Center near Ashland along I5.
The doors open at 9a.m.
The $12 million facility will act as a key safety rest stop for people coming into Oregon from California. It will also house an office for Oregon State Police working on I-5.
The facility has been in construction for more than 20 years — ever since the old rest area at mile post 10 was closed for safety in the late 1990s.
