MOUNT SHASTA, Calif. –- Multiple avalanches occurred over the weekend in the mountains of Siskiyou County according to the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center.
Two avalanches were observed at Gray Butte in the Mount Shasta area and one avalanche was observed in the Eddies region of Mount Eddy on Sunday. Conditions for avalanches were favorable in these locations after heavy, windblown, snow fell on top of an already existing layer of snow. All three avalanches were human caused, being triggered by skiers and snowboarders.
The Mount Shasta Avalanche Center says warming temperatures will continue adding to the avalanche danger. Avalanche forecasters say considerable, dangerous avalanche conditions remain in place above the treeline with moderate, heightened avalanche danger existing near and below the treeline.
