GOLD HILL, Ore. --
UPDATE: Oregon State Police has identified the semi driver killed in a crash on I-5 Thursday morning. 21-year-old Pavlo Hryzhuk was from Citrus Heights, California, the agency said.
OSP said that troopers responded to the crash just after 3:30 a.m. Investigators determined that Hryzhuk had been driving an International Box Truck southbound on I-5 — not northbound, as the Sheriff's Office had previously indicated — hauling a load of electronics.
"For unknown reasons the truck drifted to the right and collided with a large section of guardrail before traveling off a bridge and coming to rest on the roadway below," OSP said.
Emergency crews pronounced Hryzhuk dead at the scene. Investigators are "looking at the possibility of fatigue" contributing to the crash.
OSP said that I-5 was not directly affected by the crash, but the northbound exit will remain closed while recovery of the truck continues.
Hryzhuk's family has set up a GoFundMe page requesting assistance with his burial.
"He was the only boy with a family of seven kids," Ivanna Hryzhuk wrote. "We are trying to raise money to transport his body back home and give him a proper funeral. Please keep our family in your prayers, thank you."
