BROOKINGS, Ore. — A Coos Bay man who was reported missing over the weekend was discovered dead in a crash along Highway 255 in Curry County on Monday morning, according to Oregon State Police.

50-year-old Chester Mayer was last seen leaving a house in Brookings on Saturday night, OSP said. He was reported missing to Brookings Police the next day.

Shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday morning, OSP troopers and emergency crews responded to reports of a single vehicle found wrecked along Hwy 255 near milepost 361. First responders found Mayer and his Ford F350 at the scene.

An intial investigation of the crash found that Mayer had been driving northbound on Carpenterville Highway when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossed over the southbound lane, and veered off the roadway. Mayer was fatally injured in the crash, OSP said.
