INITIAL REPORT: Law enforcement agencies are looking for any information that can help them find a missing Gold Hill man, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) confirmed on Friday.
“We are currently looking for a fellow who has not been seen since Dec 4,” said Mike Moran of the Sheriff's Office.
63-year-old Jeffrey Owen Boone reportedly left his home on an errand Wednesday morning, driving a 2005 white Buick Century 4-door, with the Oregon plate number 627-APN. His phone was last pinged in the White City area around 5 p.m. later that day, and has since been turned off, Moran said.
A neighbor of Boone’s called the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office around 6:15 p.m. that evening, indicating that he was concerned his neighbor had not returned, which was unusual. The deputy took the information and entered Boone as an “attempt to locate” case within Jackson County.
At about 2 a.m. the next morning, California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call indicating Boone’s car may have struck a guardrail. Around 6 a.m. his plate was run by CHP in Redding for some reason, but it does not appear that a stop was initiated, according to Moran.
Around 10 a.m. on the 5th, a different deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office followed up with the neighbor and Boone’s mother. After learning that Boone had some health-related issues and had not returned home, his case was upgraded to "Missing and Endangered." At that point his information was submitted into a database available to agencies outside of Jackson County.
Boone is described as being a white man, about 6'1" and 160 pounds.
A friend of Boone's told NewsWatch 12 that he has been disoriented, has been known to experience seizures and requires medication. She said that Boone may have a black dog with him. She also said that Boone is a military veteran.
(EDIT: The original release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said that Boone's Buick was gold in color. This article has been updated to reflect that it is white.)
