JACKONSON COUNTY, Ore.-- The Miles fire was declared as 100 percent contained on October 16. The Miles fire is north of Shady Cove on the Douglas and Jackson counties border.
The fire was caused by a lightening strike on July 15. It grew to 54,334 acres.
Firefighters continue safety and repair work within the fire area. Nearly all the crews are removing dangerous trees along the perimeter of the fire and along several roads.
Crews are also working on repairing dozer and hand lines used for supressing the fire.
There some road closures as crews work on repairs. A full list of closure can be found on the Forest Service's website.
People should be cautious even when the roads reopen. Trees could still be damaged and road conditions can quickly deteriorate during rain storms.
