MEDFORD, Ore. — Officers from the Medford Police Department have arrested two suspects in the stabbing of a 73-year-old who was discovered in a motel room last Friday.

According to the agency, officers responded to Harvey's Motel on S Central Avenue just before 8 a.m. on March 5. Staff had discovered the victim, a 73-year-old man, in the bathtub of a room.

MPD said that the victim was suffering from multiple stab wounds to the neck, and blunt-force trauma injuries on the upper parts of his body. Paramedics tended to his wounds at the scene before taking him to the hospital. He remained hospitalized as of Thursday and has not been identified.

Detectives started looking into the case, and found that a 30-year-old Jake Compton had rented the room where the victim was discovered. Compton was nowhere to be found, but investigators came to believe that he was responsible for causing the victim's injuries after an argument in the room on March 3.

Compton and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Cera Freier, allegedly placed the victim in the tub "in hopes he would die from his injuries," MPD said. Freier stayed at the scene to make sure that the victim didn't leave, according to the agency.

Around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, officers found Compton in the parking lot of the Econo Lodge on Riverside. He was interviewed before being arrested and taken to jail on charges of Attempted Murder and Assault in the First Degree.

Officers found Freier on Thursday morning when she returned to Harvey's Motel, the agency said. She was likewise interviewed and taken to jail for an unrelated parole warrant.

A Jackson County grand jury indicted Compton on the murder and assault charges Thursday. Freier was indicted for Attempted Murder, Attempted Assault 1st Degree, and Kidnapping 2nd Degree.
