UPDATE: About 64,000 Pacific Power customers in total lost power Tuesday morning, according to an official statement from the company. The outage resulted from a substation in Grants Pass that was damaged by "onsite construction work."

The outage affected a large area both within and beyond Josephine County—from Rogue River to Merlin, Cave Junction and Crescent City in California. It began at 9:07 a.m. and ended at 9:39 a.m., when Pacific Power crews rerouted power to restore service.

“We want to thank our customers for their patience,” said Christina Kruger, regional business manager for Pacific Power in southern Oregon. "We were able to restore power quickly, but we realize being without electricity is an inconvenience even for a short time."

Pacific Power says that a full investigation of the outage is still ongoing.

UPDATE:
Pacific Power is no longer reporting any significant power outages in Josephine or Jackson counties. At the outage's peak, it apparently affected upwards of 40,000 customers.

NewsWatch 12 reached out to Pacific Power again to find out what caused the outage, but we have not yet heard back from anyone for comment.

UPDATE: Some customers in the Grants Pass area are reporting that their power has returned, but Pacific Power has only continued to upgrade the number of households affected.

UPDATE:
According to a Pacific Power spokesperson, the company is not yet sure what is causing the outages, but they are prepared for this to be an "extended" issue.

The outage extends from Grants Pass to Crescent City in California, and Pacific Power believes that the problem originated in Grants Pass. They think it could have been caused by failed or damaged equipment, but the cause has not yet been pinpointed.

Pacific Power will be posting updates on their website, and we will be updating this article accordingly.
