Man Dead After Deer Darts into Road

Yarmie hit the deer and lost control of the vehicle. He hit a tree and died at the scene.

PROSPECT, Ore. -- A man is dead after a deer ran into the roadway, right as 19 motorcycles passed by.

The crash happened on Monday at about 10 a.m. on Highway 62 near Prospect. 

Police say Gary Yarmie, 37, is from Oshawa, Ottawa, Canada. He was traveling northbound with 18 other riders when a deer ran into the roadway.

Yarmie hit the deer and lost control of the vehicle. He hit a tree and died at the scene. 

Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation closed one lane for about 4.5 hours.
