MERLIN, Ore. -- A logger died Monday morning following an accident in the mountains above West Pickett Creek in Josephine County.
The Josephine County Sheriff's Office said that deputies responded shortly before 11 a.m. after receiving a report of the incident. At the scene, deputies, firefighters, and paramedics found a that a man had been struck by a rolling log while using a chain saw, pinning him some 800 feet down the side of the mountain.
The logger was later identified as 26-year-old Cody Anderson. Firefighters and paramedics confirmed that Anderson did not survive the accident.
Both emergency personnel and the logging crew worked to recover Anderson's body and release it to a funeral home. Anderson's next of kin has been notified of his death.
In a Facebook post, Rural Metro Fire said that the recovery operation took five hours to complete.
"RM firefighters respect the hard, dangerous occupations surrounding the timber harvest industry. We extend our condolences to the logger's family and crew," Rural Metro said in their Facebook post.
